Child Directed Play: Reflective Listening

As we have been finding out, engaging in child-directed play is a powerful way to connect with your little ones! Ashley is going to share with us today how the use of reflective listening in child directed play can deepen the emotional connetion with your child. When we practice neutral reflections during playtime, we create a safe space for children to open up and express their feelings.

But, what are neutral reflections? Neutral reflections involve mirroring a child's emotions without judgment or interpretation. For example, if a child says, "I'm sad," you can respond with a neutral reflection like, "It seems like you're feeling sad right now."

How does it help?

1️⃣ Builds Trust: By acknowledging their emotions without judgment, children feel seen and heard, building trust in the relationship.

2️⃣ Encourages Expression: Neutral reflections provide a platform for children to express their thoughts and feelings freely.

3️⃣ Promotes Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and articulating emotions is a crucial aspect of developing emotional intelligence.

Let's foster a nurturing environment where children feel comfortable sharing their inner world!
