Stress and Your Body: The Inside Story

By: Leah Musacchio, MSW Intern Therapist

The Impacts of Stress on Your Body

Did you know that chronic stress can impact almost every system in your body?

Research shows that when stress goes unreleased, it can suppress the immune system, leading to potential health issues (Dhabhar, 2014). Imagine what happens when the body stays in a constant fight-or-flight mode!

Good news! Under normal circumstances, just three minutes after a threatening situation, the body relaxes, returning to its normal state.

But if stress persists, it enters a second stage where adrenaline lessens, but corticosteroid secretion remains high.

If this stress persists unchecked, it could lead to a breakdown of bodily resources, rises in inflammation, chronic illness, and disease (Dhabhar, 2014).

Let's prioritize self-care and find ways to manage stress for a healthier, happier life! Remember, your well-being matters!

If you need help learning new skills to manage stress or if the old skillsets are just not working anymore, we can help!
